a full day all inclusive trip with two meals, tours & round trip from San Jose
Tortuguero National Park, in the north east of Costa Rica, is often referred to as the "Amazon of Costa Rica" due to it's dense flora & variety of fauna and isolation - only reachable by aircraft or boat. This adventure-packed one day safari tour includes two good meals, tours, bilingual guide, and your complete round trip by bus and boat to the center of the mystical National Park of Tortuguero. |
The beaches are a key nesting ground for endangered sea turtles, including Hawksbill, Loggerheads, Green and Leatherbacks. Manatees, caiman and crocodiles live in the canals and the jungle is home to endangered jaguars, three species of monkeys (spider, howler, and white-faced Capuchin) and three-toed sloths. |
Basilisk lizards and tree frogs inhabit the area, along with 375 species of birds.

7:15 am
Just after passing through the beautiful
BRAULIO CARRILLO NATIONAL PARK,
we stop for an authentically typical
traditional Costa Rican breakfast
of fruit juice, coffee, eggs
and the popular "Gallo Pinto".

7:45 am
Following breakfast,
we continue to a BANANA PLANTATION,
where your guide will explain the process
of growing and exporting the fruit.
Bananas are the top agricultural export of Costa Rica, followed by Pineapples.

10:00 am
We later abandon our bus and embark on the most exciting part of this tour: the boat trip into the jungle of the Tortuguero National Park.
On the boat trip up the canals into the Tortuguero jungles, we will see natural beauty in function and encounter an authentic feeling of the humid tropical rain forest.
Tortuguero National Park is relatively isolated and covers 29,000 hectares or some 72,000 acres of Costa Rican mainland. The park is just part of a larger reserve called the "Tortuguero Conservation Area", which is part of the Humedal Caribe Noreste, a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. |
Tortuguero National Park is one of the most important nesting sites of the Caribbean for the Chelonia Mydas, the green sea turtle.
Whereas its forests and waterways are home for such endangered mammals such as sloths, monkeys, agoutis, coatimundis and manatees. There are also abundant birds such as great green macaws, toucans, trogons, egrets, |
About 1:00 pm
After lunch we will take a walk through the village of Tortuguero
where we will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the local
inhabitants and their town largely built due to the local wood mill jobs
in the years before the area was protected as Tortuguero National Park in 1972.
Will I see Turtles? What time of the year is best to see them?

Unfortunately on this full day safari tour, you won't. While sea-turtle viewing opportunities are plentiful in-season and at night after 6pm, one must stay overnight in Tortuguero to be able to do this and be accompanied by an official guide.
There are customizing opportunities Parklands can arrange, but you might be interested in a perfect alternative overnight package.
There is never a guarantee you will see turtles, but your odds are pretty good from about May through October.
More specifically, prime season for green turtles is from July to October.
Leatherbacks nest frequently along the Caribbean coast from March until June and Hawksbill and Loggerheads, while less common, also nest along the Caribbean during the summer months.
Incubation of the eggs is roughly 60 days, so the first batch of babies will be hatching towards the end of the season while the moms are still laying. August and September are really good months to see both.
No turtle viewing can be included on a day only trip.
If you wish to see Turtles, you must stay overnight during the prime season.
