A tour especially for bird lovers. At 6 am an expert bird guide will be waiting for you to take you on a morning walk through the reserve. During the two and a half hour tour, your guide will help you to observe and identify all the birds you encounter on the 3 kilometer trail and bridges through the primary rain forest of this 250 hectare tropical nature reserve.

The bridges were designed by civil engineers, built according to the highest standards with regards to security and are made of aluminum, galvanized steel and concrete. During the construction of the bridges, care was taken so that the forest remained intact. The bridges offer maximum security and comfort to our visitors.
There are 16 bridges in total. Ten of them are regular or static bridges and vary in length from eight to 22 meters. Six are hanging or suspension bridges and are 48 to 98 meters long. The hanging bridges have an elegant and safe design and were constructed according to the latest and most modern techniques.

During this tour, which is only possible upon prior reservation, an expert naturalist guide will take you through our private nature reserve and introduce you to its rich biodiversity. During the walk you will learn more about the fauna and flora of the area as your guide will share his knowledge with you and show you all kinds of species from tiny insects and frogs to snakes, birds and if you’re lucky, the peculiar Ocelot. You can enjoy this unforgettable tour in all safety.
This walk is a fun and educative option to learn more about the forest and the local environment and enjoy the close contact with nature. The trail makes a loop with a total length of 3100 meters within the mountainous area. Along these three kilometers of trails you will be immersed in the divers fauna and flora of the rainforest and admire exotic animals, colorful birds and tropical plant species. While you're walking along the trails, the fascinating world of the tropical forest will open to you. The goal is to offer you a safe and sustainable way to enjoy the abundant natural resources and at the same time protect it for our future generations.

Arenal Hanging Bridges is a private reserve, which complies with the National Protected Forest Laws. We wish to encourage our visitors to appreciate the beauties of this protected rain forest. It is our responsibility to control and regulate the behavior of our visitors in order to diminish the impact on the fragile flora and fauna; this is why we have to insist that you observe the following regulations:
- It is forbidden to abandon the trails anywhere inside the reserve.
- It is absolutely prohibited to hunt or collect samples of plants or animals within the reserve. Disturbing the wildlife or the use of any type or cutting tool to clear a path, or to damage in any way plants or animals will be sanctioned according to Costa Rica’s Wildlife Protection Laws.
- Please do not carry radios, and maintain a low voice so as not to disturb the animals or the other visitors.
- Even though all the bridges have been designed to support impressive amounts of weight, a maximum of 25 people of aprox. 220 pounds will be allowed at any one time is each bridge, in order to comply with the strict safety margins established for the Arenal Hanging Bridges.
- It is strictly forbidden to jump, swing or run in any of the bridges.
- Entry into the reserve is at the individuals own risk. Arenal Hanging Bridges can not being legally responsible for injuries occurring while at the reserve. Your registry at the entrance indicates your acceptance of the conditions stated herein.
- Smoking is allowed only in the parking area.
The Arenal Hanging Bridges are located about eight kilometers east of Tabacón and 20 kilometers from La Fortuna town, in front of the Arenal Volcano and the Arenal Lake.
