SARAPIQUI RIVER SAFARI FLOAT
(from San Jose: 90 Min/Motorized Boat Safari or 3 hours Raft Float Safari, either from $95 p/p
- scenic, relaxing & a good opportunity for wildlife in a completely natural sighting -
The Sarapiquí river is well known as the scenic river of Costa Rica's tropical rain forest, and originates between the Poás and Barva volcanoes in the central valley. It runs 53 miles, right to the Nicaraguan border.
There are three sections of the river ranging from the high altitude class 5 rapids to the gentle low-altitude class 1 flow.
And the safari float options are class 1, with very few small rapids if at all. We have two great safari tours on the Sarapiqui River on offer. You can choose.
One is perfect if you don't mind a little fun with occasional very light rapids, can use a paddle, and can enjoy being seated in a inflatable river raft with your professional guide paddling and directing the tour.
While the other tour option is using a small motorized boat with more formal seating and guide with captain. Either way, they offer you sights of beautiful tropical scenery and wildlife of the Costa Rican lowlands.
Parklands has created these special quotes to include transfers directly from many lodging points in the central valley, and sometimes even door to door.

From your pick up point in San Jose and Costa Rica's Central Valley, you will ride across the mountains and through a tunnel as you traverse the splendid cloud infused jungle covered mountains of Braulio Carillo National Park on your way to the lower and calm reaches of the Saraqiqui River. The park's high mountains are heavily carpeted with thick, living forest and rushing streams carving myriads of waterfalls in the steep canyons.
This unique national park, with such rugged terrain, but so close to the Costa Rican capital boasts one of the highest levels of biodiversity in the country. It is estimated that more than 90% of the park is densely covered in primary ancient forest - giving the visitor a view of ancient ecology preserved.

TOUR OPTION ONE (Safari in a Motorized Boat)
Once we arrive at Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, we will be ready to enjoy a relaxing boatride on the Sarapiqui River. You will have plastic/wooden seats to sit on, with back rests.
Just sit back and observe the wildlife that is around you. It's a safari, so you will need to look. Bring your binoculars if you can. The monkeys, sloths, iguanas, caimans, and a large variety of birds will be trying to hide, but do your best to see them when if they come out of the foliage to greet you on the tour.
During the safari boat ride our guide will also explain to us about lifestyle of the friendly people that live at the river banks.
It's a great relaxing trip and definitely a time to capture memories and wildlife with your camera.
TOUR OPTION TWO (Safari Float in a Raft)
The safari float is a guided three hour river ride, in a quiet raft without engine noise, through the beautifully scenic lower Sarapiquí and its tributaries that flow down from the jungle and cloud infused Braulio Carrillo National Park.
While there are many calm sections of the river, you do get to experience some light white water (class 1). You will use your paddle sometimes, but generally the guide will take care of you.
On your slow tour down the beautiful jungle-like river you get to see stunning scenery and varied fauna (search them out and use binoculars if you can bring them).
