Family & Friends Sharing Costs
Traveling in a group is always fun. There are countless benefits of traveling in a group, may it be with your family, friends or even with a group of people that you don’t know so well, but the major benefit is the discounted prices. When you travel in a group, automatically helps you budget your spending. While traveling in a group, the price of everything gets divided: the car rental or driver & van for ground transportation to the activities and the guide, too. Just get everyone to chip in and rent vacation lodging. Consider a 3 night, 5, 7 or 10-night stay. The price of transportation will immediately go down while you're traveling in a group, as to traveling solo. You won't have to pay as much as you do if you were to travel alone as costs can be divided among you. (thanks to: Kristi Panth)

"Brian Fisher" asked this very pertinent question about vacation lodging with eating in:
If you are taking a vacation with several other families, some with kids and some without, how do share the costs for lodging and food? In my situation we are renting a vacation unit were we will all stay. There will be two groups going: our family of four (2 adults, a 5 year old and a 2 year old) and another couple with no kids. What would be the most fair way to divide the costs for the house? Are there some general rules that people use? Also, the food will be bought for the vacation unit, so how should we divide the cost of food? The best answer was chosen from forum participant "Dheer":
As you are traveling with friends, whatever you share is more of friendship and how you are offering and how the other person is responding. There are various ways to share this:
My suggestion would be to offer 4/6 split to your friend. If they are generous, they will refuse and say it should be 1/2. Try to settle for 3/5. If you settle for 1/2 split, ensure that the food & items you buy specifically for the kids [chocolates, specific cereals, diapers and other items] be billed separately and pay separately.
